Asteroid Unik 'Bergantungan' Pada Bumi

Meskipun ukurannya cukup kecil dan jaraknya hanya dua kali dari jarak bulan ke bumi, pihak NASA menemukan aasteroid tersebut terus menerus bergantungan dengan bumi. Asteroid tersebut, yang dalam daftar disebut sebagai 2009 BD merupakan sebuah asteroid yang aneh.

"Kami menyebutnya sebagai asteroid co-orbit 'yang selalu menemani bumi layaknya matahari'," ujar para astronom melalui situs resmi SpaceWeather, Senin (26/1/2009).

Ini bukanlah asteroid pertama yang 'menempel' pada bumi. Sebelumnya, pada tahun 1999, sebuah asteroid co-orbital ditemukan dengan nama 2003 YN107. Asteroid tersebut selalu mengikuti gerak bumi hingga akhirnya terlepas pada tahun lalu.

Belum lagi sebuah asteroid dengan nama 2002 AA29 yang pernah muncul dan sempat disebut-sebut sebagai planet bulan ke dua.

Batu asteroid 2009 BD diprediksi memiliki diameter 10 meter dengan jarak sekira 644.000 kilometer dari bumi. Diprediksi, pada tahun 2010 asteroid tersebut akan terlepas dengan jarak akhir 9,3 juta mil dari bumi.
